Coaching 

Counseling 

  • Goals are set by the client and could be almost anything.  The focus is on solutions and results
  • Helps the client move forward by focusing on "how" and not "why"
  • Does not analyze a client's past or focus on healing unresolved issues from the past  
  • Goals are mutually developed. The focus is on improving mental health
  • Typically helps a client heal by addressing the "why" 
  • Helps a client understand and resolve issues from the past affecting the present
